FOX Parade Tour at midnight of December 31, 2025
The Fox Parade of Oji (Ōji no Kitsune no Gyōretsu) is a traditional Japanese festival held every year on December 31 in Ōji, Kita City, Tokyo. According to local folklore, fox spirits (kitsune) from all over the Kantō region would gather under an old enoki tree near Ōji Inari Shrine on New Year’s Eve, transform into humans, and then parade to the shrine to celebrate the coming of the New Year. This legend inspired the modern festival, which recreates the mythical procession. Participants dress in traditional kimono and wear fox masks, carrying lanterns as they walk through the streets from Ōji Station to Ōji Inari Shrine. Today, the Fox Parade attracts many visitors and is known for its magical, atmospheric scenery. It celebrates Japanese folklore, the cultural role of foxes as messengers of the god Inari, and the transition from the old year to the new one.
